Just out of curiosity, are your photography clients open to this? While 
I've emphasized to mine that it's the only way to truly protect an 
image, they are reluctant to ruin the visual effect of their photographs.

(To clarify: I do understand you're not talking about altering the image 
itself, just using PHP to create the watermarked output.)
