Frankly, I didn't expect it. >After solving the preload issue, that could cause the browser to skip playing the first file or even mix >the following with previous. I was almost sure I can get it to work, but it didn't! I figured out a way to get around that and that was to combine the sounds together into one file beforehand and play that. The combining of mp3 file takes place in php and not a js issue. > I've even removed the BGSOUND tag completely to se if I can get it right on IE using EMBED only. -snip- (see below) >Ajax, fajax etc are all the same bullshit, reusing IE technology (and lately flash) through simple scripts people like us used to publish. Ajax works for what it was designed for -- from what I hear about fajax the "f" stands for farce (farcejax). I traveled the entire ajax route (learned a lot) trying to obtain an ajax solution, but that wasn't the solution nor the problem. The problem was simply getting ALL browsers to play anything. While the bground and embed tags were depreciated, the w3c has not come up with anything to replace them. I've looked for days and can't find anything! It's one of those "How can this be?" things. So, as an end result I arrived at two "solutions" -- one is simple and the other requires Flash. see: [1] http://xn--ovg.com/snd [2] http://xn--ovg.com/snd1 Neither validate because of the embed tags depreciated thing. But both seem to work for the majority of browsers. I have report mechanics built into both sites so I receive reports everyday as to visitors experiences and I am accumulating statistics. Thus far: [1] appears to have problems with Liux running FF 1.0.8 and WNT 4.0 & 51 running FF 1.5.0.4. [2] I have not had very much response yet to have confirmations as to it working, or not (I need two or more NO's to confirm that it doesn't work). So, it appears that I have something working -- now let's see what the rest of the world thinks about it. Thanks very much for your help. tedd -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://sperling.com http://ancientstones.com http://earthstones.com
