COOL TOOLS FOR JAVA
*********************
Tired of the same old news about yet another EJB deployment aid?
Bored of another new IDE that feels like an old IDE? Glassy-eyed
at another tired-looking, thin-client HTML-based GUI?
If yes... get some sleep.
Then... come to the next NYJavaSIG meeting on March 20 to find out
more about 3 new Java tools that'll help cure the boredom and
inspire you to think differently.
Small Worlds
Spidertop
KnowNow
SPIDERTOP
=========
Spidertop offers a new architecture for developing Java user
interfaces. The presentation will be a follow-up to the December
JDJ article entitled "Rich User Interfaces". Chief Architect,
Vincent Maciejewski will demo how a Java Swing user interface can
be constructed faster than a user interface built from HTML/JavaScript
web pages. He will also discuss how functionality of web services
with a Java user interface can be extended by end users.
SMALLWORLDS
===========
Large-scale software is vast, complex dependency web of components.
Understanding the importance of structure of this web is essential
to having robust, scalable and maintainable systems. We introduce
the Small Worlds (www.thesmallworlds.com), software analysis and
visualization tool, which focuses on issues of structural stability,
complexity and risk in large-scale software.
KNOWNOW
=======
Ever wanted to do publish/subscribe among Java and non-Java peers?
We've all created HTML via a JSP/Servlet, but how about having the
HTML talk back to the app server? How about publish/subscribe
between two (Java or non-Java) peers on the web without any additional
software installation? Can you say "instant web services connectivity"?
KnowNow also allows you to dynamically reroute messages based on
intelligence that you can "plugin" to their message router. Imagine
dynamically moving product orders from one vendor to another?
Imagine tracking application behavior over the web, or reroute
messages based on content or topic... very cool.
