This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0006_01BF6AFD.5FAAEA50 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit We started a very large pure-Java project using JBuilder v2.x w/JDK1.1.6 and Swing. When we moved to JDK1.2x, JBuilder couldn't/wouldn't support it and the folks at Inprise refused to give us any kind of guidance on when we could expect to migrate--so we dumped JBuilder with pleasure. It was very buggy and we weren't sorry to see it go. Besides, I resent having to pay $100/phone call to ask simple questions about a product that any salesman should know. Like what the future release plans are to support obvious changes in the base Java platform. We adopted Kawa in the interim (at $50/seat it isn't free but it may as well be compared to JBuilder's $600+/seat price.) We liked it so well we've kept it for the last year and a half with very few complaints. The company has been good about releasing periodic updates that really do address feature and bug problems. In this era of slam-it-out-and-forget-it internet SW development, they have good old-fashioned levels of support. I was quite surprised and pleased. KAWA isn't perfect. It doesn't support subprojects very gracefully. This isn't a problem for applet developers but for our large project it is a considerable hassle. Its debugger also does not live up to C/C++ standards that I'm used to. They are, however, one of the first integrated debuggers that has been moved to Sun's new debugger architecture so I expect subsequent upgrades to get progressively more reliable. Besides, what do you want for fifty bucks, anyway? This is a great product from a great company! Regards, --- Mack --- Mack Mackenzie iBizWare, Inc.
