Ultraedit is a great editor that isn't free, there is a nominal fee
involved. You can set it up to compile using jdk or any other compiler and
capture the output. I have used it with makefiles in C++, Java development,
as well as a great text/hex editor. It is truly a great product. You can
download a demo @ http://www.ultraedit.com

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

I use emacs myself. You can get addons for it, I have one for Java, it
works well for me.
And you can do so many things with emacs besides just java.
Get it for win32 here:
http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows/ntemacs.html
And I'd be happy to field questions about using the most flexible,
extensible
editor in the world.
